Seminariet äger rum onsdag den 25 september 2019, kl. 14-15 i konferensrum 357, Frescati Hagväg 14, plan 3.

Abstract

In the fall of 2018, Stockholm University opened up its brand new experimental animal facility (Experimental Core Facility, ECF) designed to house mice and rats. Integrated within the ECF is a unique facility for intravital imaging with open access (IVMSU). This seminar will present the framework for conducting animal studies within the ECF/IVMSU infrastructures.

An overview of the regulations, training requirements, costs and other practical aspects of performing experiments in ECF will be given, as well as the practical aspects of work on animals, cells and tissues within IVMSU.

Christiane Peuckert, PhD., Manager of IntraVital Microscopy Stockholm University (IVMSU)

The ECF infrastructure is designed to enable research within the fields of metabolism, thermoneutrality, infection biology, developmental biology, immunology, cancer, neuroscience, and effects of radiation. This infrastructure provides the opportunity to study a variety of research questions using genetically engineered animals. A few concrete examples of studies that can be performed within ECF will be given, such as models of neurodegeneration and methods for behavioral analysis.

IVMSU is a multiphoton microscopy unit that is unique within Europe due to its open access. This top-modern technology enables several imaging modalities such as FLIM, SHG/THG and optogenetic stimulation which will be reviewed. Imaging on animals can be done in a recurrent fashion using body window technology, allowing for long-term experiments. A few concrete examples of studies that can be performed within IVMSU will be given, such as models of intracranial imaging and simultaneous imaging and assessment of behavior on non-sedated animals.
