Ongoing projects 2017-2018

  1. The CIV (Communicative Individual Variation) project, Experiment 1 (Behavioral). Relation and potential independence of aspects of communicative ability, in a large cohort (N=200).
  2. The CIV project, Experiment 2 (Neuroimaging). The neurobiology of comprehension of indirect speech acts and its dependence on broader communicative ability. Participants are young adults.
  3. The neurobiology of comprehension of indirect speech acts in younger and older adolescents.
  4. The development of monitoring for mutual understanding (Behavioral experiments with children and adolescents), e.g. through acquisition of how to ask clarification questions (or repair sequences).
  5. Theoretical work integrating and developing psycholinguistic models of communicative development that can interface with neurobiology.

The neurobiology of sentence processing and processing of complex sequences and syntax. Research line 2.

Ongoing projects 2017-2018

  1. The MOUS project (Mother of All Unification Studies), Subproject FMRI. Modeling the BOLD-response during sentence processing of complex syntax, in a large cohort (N=200). Several follow-ups projects, including additional complexity measure and also quantifying semantic structure, are in the planning phase.
  2. The MOUS project, Subproject Genetics. Candidate gene replication study.
  3. The MOUS project, Subproject Connectivity. How does individual differences during sentence processing depend on individual differences in connectivity.
  4. Specialization for syntax and phonotactics in the frontal lobe.
  5. Collaborative writing on hierarchical structure in the field studying comparative biology of structured sequence processing.
