Martins främsta forskningsintressen inkluderar utveckling av beteendemedicinsk behandling av kronisk smärta hos barn och interaktionen mellan beteendemässiga inlärningsprocesser, hjärnan och immunsystemet under sådana förhållanden. Martin är särskilt intresserad av placebo- och nocebo-mekanismer ur ett kontextuellt beteendeinlärningsperspektiv, och hur dessa mekanismer kan förstås bättre för att exempelvis hjälpa utvecklingen av effektivare behandlingar.

Mina huvudsakliga forskningsintressen inkluderar utveckling och utvärdering av beteendemedicinsk behandling, ur ett kontextuellt beteendevetenskapligt perspektiv, för patienter med psykiskt lidande (beteendemässigt, kognitivt och emotionellt) med avseende på deras somatiska sjukdom. Det främsta fokuset är att förfina vår förståelse av språkprocesser i dessa interventioner, liksom av interaktionen mellan biologiska markörer, symtom och psykologiska faktorer, med avseende på daglig funktion och livskvalitetsresultat efter ovannämnda behandlingar (dvs förändringsprocesser).

Thereses doktorandprojekt undersöker kostbehandling med låg FODMAP (fermenterbara oligodinosackarider och polyoler)-kost för vuxna patienter med Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), och hur FODMAP-dieten påverkar magtarmsymtom, trötthet och livskvalitet. Projektet undersökte också sambandet mellan kostintag, näringsstatus och symtombörda vid ME/CFS och samsjukligheten mellan IBS och ME/CFS.
