Abstract

Job insecurity has negative impacts on both individuals and organizations, and yet less is known on the mitigating factors. I will present the results of two recent studies. In study 1, we used two longitudinal samples to test the moderation of organizational justice and its underlying mechanism. The results consistently showed that job insecurity was negatively related to performance at lower justice; and job insecurity was not related to performance at higher justice, and work engagement acted as a mediator. In study 2, we also used longitudinal design with data of employees’ absence records to test the moderation of justice. The results supported that justice attenuated the impact of job insecurity on employees’ absences. Our findings suggest the key role of organizational justice in the employees’ responses to job insecurity. In this presentation, I will also describe several ongoing projects.
