Memory and Metacognition Lab

The lab focuses on different aspect of memory, in particular autobiographical memory and metamemory.

Autobiographical memory concerns personal events from one’s life. The construction of events is complex and integrates an array of functions, for example, memory, perception, imagery, and language. Two central topics for the lab are the age distribution and phenomenological experiences (e.g., mental time travel, emotionality, vividness) of autobiographical memories.

Metacognition concerns the thoughts we have about our own cognitions. Metamemory, which concerns our thoughts about our memories, is an important part of the metacognitive research field. Metacognition or metamemory includes the online monitoring of our memories (e.g., you are certain that you remember the code to your Mastercard correctly) or ongoing learning (e.g., you think you have learned something very well), and how this information is used to control the behavior (e.g., you really think you need to spend more time practicing for an exam instead of going to the cinema). Another example of metacognition is our knowledge about different learning strategies, when and how to implement them (metacognitive knowledge).

ÄMNESBESKRIVNING

Kognitionspsykologi
