ÄMNESBESKRIVNING

Biologisk psykologi

Biologisk psykologi är ett tvärvetenskapligt kunskapsområde med inriktning på att förstå och förklara psykologiska funktioner med hjälp av bakomliggande biologiska skeenden.

Exempel på sådana skeenden kan vara fysiologisk aktivitet, framförallt nervsystemets aktivitet, samt genetik och evolution. Ett flertal olika psykologiska delområden faller under rubriken biologisk psykologi, inklusive fysiologisk psykologi, komparativ psykologi och neuropsykologi. Ett område som växt fram det senaste årtiondet, kognitiv neurovetenskap, sorterar också under biologisk psykologi.

Gemensamt för den biologiska psykologins alla delområden är att de utgår från att biologiska och psykologiska förhållanden är systematiskt relaterade till varandra, och att de söker att identifiera och kartlägga dessa samband.
